Myth 2:

AI and RPA as job killers

Florian Poniewaß I 01.09.2020

Especially when it comes to our customer acquisition, there is a certain amount of skepticism about AI and RPA technology. This modern technology is said to destroy jobs in many professions and make people redundant in the workplace. In 2015, ING-DIBA predicted that more than 18 million jobs in Germany would be taken over by robots. So it's no wonder that there are doubts and concerns about this technology.

But what is really true???

The fact is that these concerns have arisen in the past. In fact, with every industrial revolution. Whether it was steam engines, assembly lines, or the introduction of computers in the 1970s, employees rightly worried about the future viability of their jobs. But even after these revolutions, we see that there are more jobs in Germany than ever before.

What we now know:

Employees do not have to fear being displaced by bots. By introducing RPA and AI, companies are increasing their performance level, which inevitably leads to an increased demand for staff. Bots may take over simple and monotonous routine tasks, but employees still benefit from it. People therefore have more time to concentrate on their specialist area and do not despair at stupid and error-prone tasks. Process automation thus creates freedom for employees to be able to work creatively. Creativity is a skill that RPA and even AI only master to a limited extent. This means that people remain irreplaceable, of course also in the long term.
